There are a number of different ways in which you can get people to join your mailing list; however, participating in free giveaway events is perhaps the easiest and most cost-effective of all. The only problem you will encounter is actually figuring out how to participate in such events. So how can you do it?

The only problem you will encounter is actually figuring out how to participate in such events. So how can you do it?

The first way in which you can build a mailing list through free giveaway events is to actually create the events yourself. You can do this by organizing other business owners in your given niche and asking them if they are interested in giving away products in order to build mailing lists. In most cases, you will want to use some sort of event as a reason for conducting the giveaway. Perhaps you will organize a massive Christmas giveaway - or perhaps you will use some other Holiday. Regardless of what event you select, remember to use some sort of a premise to help it build momentum.

Once you have selected a premise, you will also want to start contacting everyone who sells a product in your given niche. This works especially well if you contact business owners who sell multiple products - some of which are relatively old. They will usually be looking to make some money off of older products by giving them away for free.

Let each of your potential partners know upfront what you plan to do. Let them know that you plan to organize a giveaway event, in which all product owners will allow visitors to download free copies of their software in exchange for providing them with an email address.

You can organize this in several different ways. One way is to allow each owner who joins to give away all the products of all the members in exchange for email addresses. Another way is to attempt to get several different email addresses per giveaway sign-up. The first is probably a better option to select if you are creating it yourself, as it is more likely to attract partners.

Now, if you don’t want to start such an event yourself, you can always wait for someone else in your given niche to organize it for you. Again, look out for these events around Holidays, including Christmas and New Years.

Once you actually get the email addresses of those who sign up for the products, you will then want to carefully cultivate them into buyers. You may want to do this by either using an autoresponder or sending out periodic emails before you ever try to pitch anything.

Building a responsive mailing list should be one of the most important business goals for any online marketer. There is a variety of advanced programs that work to capture qualified leads based. In addition to programs there are tons of companies out there who are solely in the business of selling leads. Thus there are many avenues that you can pursue in your efforts to build a profitable mailing list. 

What you want to do prior to investing in any programs or lead generation software is to identify your target customer. You want to narrow down things like, what are their ages, sex, interests, geographical location, and income level. The more narrow your mailing list is the higher your conversions should be, which equals more profits.

There are ups and downs to working with a direct mailing company that claims to provide you this level of specificity in their for sale lists. No matter what they claim it will be difficult for you to verify if in fact their leads are as good as they say. The positive is that it saves you time and money over doing it yourself. I would recommend using a combination of both methods but ideally focusing on your own methods.

The other main benefit to building your own list as opposed to buying from a marketing company is the important factor of relationship building. If you have your own lead generation system set you can use it build quality relationships with your potential customers.

For instance, if you are offering a free eBook or some kind of trial membership for free in exchange for a customers’ email address you are building a relationship with them. Provided that your product is of decent value the next time you contact your list they will be much more responsive than if you emailed them out of the blue after paying for their email address.

In this manner you have full control over your relationship with that customer, you can choose to further develop it by sending more and more quality material or you can attempt at sales right away. Either way when you’re in control you have more knowledge about the quality and potential of you email list, but when you purchase from a company you are clueless about the state of your leads.

Another option available to you instead of purchasing a mailing list is to rent one out for a given period of time. This also has its benefits and pitfalls, while it can save you money there various fraudulent activities to look out for, such as other marketers copying your campaigns or lists with repeating leads and poor conversions potential.

In the long run building a responsive list through positive relationship building should be one of your main marketing priorities. The payoff for doing this correctly can be an exponential increase in your profits. There are many various strategies and tweaks in setting up a lead capture system and you should play around with it until you have found one that works best for your business.
